Ways To Get Motivated When You Work At Home

People that choose to work at home often do so for the flexibility it provides. Many have commitments that prevent them from working in a traditional employment setting, while others simply enjoy the atmosphere a work at home position offers. While there are many benefits to this type of work there are also drawbacks as well. Some people have a hard time getting motivated when they work at home since there is no boss standing over them telling them what to do. If you work at home and face this problem, here are some things you can do.Reviewing your goals for your business is one of the best ways to get motivated when you work at home. Most people that own a home business or work from home have goals of how much they want to make financially or how many products or services they want to sell. Sometimes by remembering what it is that you are striving for you are more motivated to work hard and reach your goal.Taking a break from your work can be another way to motivate yourself when you work at home. Many times home based workers get caught up in what they are doing since there are no other employees to provide distractions and no one dictating the day be broken up into breaks or meetings. Giving yourself a break from your work allows you time to clear your head and do something different. Ideally you should complete an activity that gets your blood pumping such as walking around the block, playing with your children or cleaning one room of your house. This gets you invigorated which can help motivate you when you sit back down to work. It is important though when taking a break you do set a time limit. Otherwise you may never return.Surfing the Internet can also be a way to motivate yourself. People that work at home often need to stay abreast of the latest issues surrounding their business or job, and the internet can provide a lot of the needed information. In addition, there are several fun activities and sites that you can visit that will help get your mind off work for a short period of time. However, just like taking a break you should place a time limit on how long you can surf the internet. If you don’t you’ll end up wasting two to three hours without even realizing it.Forcing yourself to work just 10 more minutes and then take a break is also a way to motivate yourself. When you don’t want to do something associated with a work at home position it can be tough to find motivation especially if it is a big project. Telling yourself to work 10 more minutes can be a great way to motivate though since you know that you can work for 10 more minutes. However, by the time 10 minutes are up you may find that you are moving through the project rather quickly and don’t want to take a break thus solving your motivation problem. Even if you aren’t motivated to continue you can still take a break knowing you knocked off 10 minutes of work. These are just some of the ways to get motivated when you work at home. Try them as well as others you think of and see which one works the best for you. You can then start using them anytime you need to find motivation.

Five Things To Understand About Ecommerce Business

When you start a new ecommerce business there are so many unknowns. Just the mere fact that you don’t know what to expect can cause some anxiety. Add the fact that it is a new business and you are not sure of your competition's hold on the market, you can get overwhelmed rather quickly. But there are a few facts, that if you have them in your arsenal of understanding, can help you tremendously. Unfortunately, if you do not have a mentor or someone that can tell you these things, you have to experience them on your own.

1.Finding Products is not always easy. Finding products to stock your site with can be a challenge. Oh sure there are plenty of so called “wholesalers” out there that are willing to drop ship for you, but they are not always the best option. First of all, I have to test each potential wholesaler or drop ship partner because I am putting my name on their service. This normally goes against my belief of counting on someone else for your success. But it has to be done. Then there is price. Finding a good margin that makes it worth your while is another task that has to be done. If you are going to go to all the trouble of building a great site and spending time linking it and building its reputation, you might as well make a decent living at it. I spend a lot of time looking at my competition and try to offer something that they do not carry. Sometimes you have to reach into your bag of tricks and figure out which products you can bundle to make your offerings more unique. This takes time, and there is not anyone out there that tells you this bit of information. Its always a good idea to fully explore importing your products from the very beginning. Using the drop shippers to explore the sales potential and then import for a better margin is a good planning tactic.

2.Starting on a shoestring does not work. We are bombarded with so many ads about people starting their businesses on a shoestring and how easy it was for them to get success. Truthfully that is one of the most irritating mindsets that is promoted today. If you are thinking about going into the ecommerce business world, make a budget and make it so there is enough cash to do some things that rob you of your precious time. Starting websites on a shoestring does not work and you will just drive yourself crazy. Maybe you can do it on eBay, but it does not work well in the ecommerce world if you want to be a long term player. Just the linking strategy that it takes today to be a player can take up a large part of your budget.

3.Build a system. If you are starting from scratch, build your site around a system. Think about how people are going to navigate around your site. What kind of paperwork are you going to need? What kind of software do you need to stay organized? How often do you need the bookkeeper to come? Do you need help with some manual labor? How does product get shipped out in a timely manner when its ordered? These are all things you need to consider and build before you open the doors. What happens if you don’t? You will be the fireman that runs around putting out all of the fires that pop up in day to day operation. This will steal you from the things that enable you to work “on” your business instead of working “in” it. You want to build a business that does not hold you hostage. It should be organized so that anyone could come in an learn what you are doing and how you do it.

4.When shipping product, plan for the worse case scenario. If you are planning on using a drop shipper, find out what the system is for problems before you start. What is their return policy? How do you handle a part that is broken? How is the tracking numbers handled? What if a customer has a question you cannot answer? You can either be a hero in this area or the villain. Again this is the scenario that someone could control your reputation. Another reality to plan for is to fully understand that shipping damage is a reality. At some point in time, your products will get lost, and damaged and stolen. You have to know this is going to happen or it will cause a lot of anxiety. Pre plan this into your budget, assign it a number. Figure out what percentage you will have to replace or refund from the very start and it will never surprise you. It is a fact of life. When you use notable shippers, its good to understand the shipping process. When you ship something chances are that you packed the item or had it packed. Then it gets picked up by the driver and taken to the local sort. Then the product either gets trucked (ground) or flown to a sort facility. It is then sorted and put on the appropriate truck or plane to go to the destination town, sorted again, put on a truck and delivered to your customer. The point is, there a lot of hands touching your product and a lot of opportunities for damage. The more people involved the greater the chance of damage opportunities. Most of this happens at night, labor turnover at the sort facility is very very high. I have seen many packages with the fragile stickers on them being tossed to workers trying to make a sort deadline. Get the picture?

5.Your business can be an emotional roller coaster. If you let it and fail to plan, it can drive you crazy with trying to wear all the hats. Just knowing that nothing goes smooth all the time is somewhat calming. It took me a long time to realize that “it’s not just me”. Problem’s are common and no one business is problem free. I have a few tools that really help me when I start to feel like I am not getting anything done.

• Sometimes my creativity is just not there, and that’s ok.

• Certain activities are not “high value”

• The more money I spend getting help or automating is that much more money I save in time further down the road.

• Link building is just as important that sales

• I need to pay myself first

• Statistics help me focus

• There are certain things I can do with my time that are excellent for my business, do those first.

• Lists help me stay organized.

Hopefully these five things will help you when planning your new venture or continuing a current project. Taking the unknown out of the equation is always the most helpful of tips.

How Do You Get Links to Your Website?

Building links to a site may be one of the most challenging things you can do. Most webmasters are very aware of what giving links can do, and some are reluctant to give links, even when deserved, to competitors.

It can make link building pretty difficult.

But links are vital to the health of any website. It's not just that search engines use them in their algorithms. It's that high quality links themselves can send in regular traffic. Low quality links not so much, but they can still send occasional small amounts of traffic.

Article Marketing
Article marketing is a very popular way to get links, and just like any other method requires a lot of work. But perhaps the biggest challenge is getting your high quality articles noticed when they're surrounded by all the spammy junk other website owners are submitting because they heard that article marketing is a good thing. It can be pretty frustrating.

Social Media Marketing
A better way, when you can manage it, is to get attention through social media marketing. The Digg effect does more than just crash websites, after all. It can generate links as other websites blog about your post.

Crafting something that will do well in social media takes time and a great deal of research, as a rule. You cannot just write something quick and expect massive results. You may once in a long while hit it big with something you never thought would. And often the results aren't what you expect. There's a degree of chance in there, due to algorithms on the social media sites, who submits the story, who else likes it, who hates it and so forth.

Lists can do very well, however. You can do a longer list with minimal detail, a shorter one with greater detail, or a long one with detail. Short lists without details rarely do so well, as they are rarely unique, funny enough or useful.

A good list can create some authority for your site. People may refer back to your list to get to more information on your topic. Include the number of items in your list. Numbers go over well.

It can help some to have a group of friends who will help one another get social media attention, whether it's on Digg, del.icio.us or another website. However you do not want to be overusing your friends, sharing junk or anything like that. Make what you submit or ask friends to submit something really worthwhile. It will improve your overall results.

It also helps if you're a regular enough user that you know what is likely to do well. Be prepared for the simple fact that social media traffic doesn't tend to convert directly into sales.

Directory Submissions
Directories have been popular in the past, but many really have minimal effect, at least with Google these days. My own rule for directory submission, if I choose to do them, is to submit and forget about it. They go in or not.

Some directories require payment. I wouldn't recommend paying for a spot in a directory unless you've researched it to find out if the links are any good.

A bad directory can do more than fail to send traffic. It can get you associated with penalized or banned sites. Do directory submission with caution whether you pay or not.

Post Questions and Answers on Other Sites
Yahoo! Answers, Google Groups and Squidoo can be decent sources for links. You do have to watch how you place your links, and avoid spamming these sites. People do catch on quickly.

Guest Blog
Guest blogging has lately been a popular way to get links. Not only can you have the chance to get your writing up in front of a new audience, you get a link to your site. There's some pretty good potential to that if you choose wisely and keep it relevant.

Hold a Contest
Holding a contest can also bring in the links. People love to win, and some of them will tell all their online friends, through their own websites, all about it. There are also websites that specialize in announcing contests. The better the prize you can give, the more attention you may get for this.

Link Out to Others
Give links to quality sites that are relevant but not too competitive with yours. You'll have to decide how competitive is too competitive, and that depends on your niche. But linking to other sites is a great way to get their attention, and there's a chance they'll return the favor. If not, you have at least provided your audience with a quality resource, right?

Participate on Forums
Find forums that will allow you to have live links in your signature. The forums should be relevant to your topic.

Participate in these forums. Ask and answer questions. Do not, however, do nothing more than push your own site. That is rarely welcome behavior. People do click on signature links, especially if you have interesting things to say on the forum itself.

There are many more ways to get links, of course. The important thing is to make sure that the links you get are good quality. It is possible to hurt your site through careless link building practices.
